Shaders are the closest thing we have to magic in software development. They run on the GPU, transforming pixels in parallel, creating visual effects that would be impossible with traditional rendering techniques.
The Invisible Ink Concept
The idea is simple: a UI element appears invisible until the user performs a specific action — hovering, clicking, or typing a secret phrase. The reveal happens gradually, as if the text is being written by an invisible hand.
The GLSL Implementation
To achieve this effect, we combine a noise texture with a time-based mask. The noise provides the organic, hand-drawn feel, while the time variable drives the reveal animation.
float noise = texture2D(uNoiseTexture, vUv * 3.0 + uTime * 0.05).r;
float mask = smoothstep(uProgress - 0.1, uProgress + 0.1, noise);
gl_FragColor = vec4(color, mask * alpha);
This is just the beginning. Shaders open up infinite possibilities for creating unique visual experiences.
